Mansun Live - March 2nd 1997

Edinburgh Venue, supported by Travis

The band came on stage to the beautiful song "The Chad Who Loved Me" with Chad using an effect on his guitar to impersonate the orchestra. Halfway through this song they moved into the bonus track on the album and also a B-side to their third EP "An Open letter To The Lyrical Trainspotter" before thundering back into the opening song.
What the gig lacked in great playing was made up for by Paul Draper's showmanship and his performance on stage. His act with the water bottle and his leaping around the stage with his guitar emitting frighteningly loud feedback.
The best part of the show were the finishing three songs. They moved slowly into an excellent rendition of "Wide Open Space" before moving into "She Makes My Nose Bleed" which they played with immeasurable excellence and they finished of with the main song from their second EP "Take it Easy Chicken" which was the best performance of the night, with Chad's excellent playing of the main riff, to Draper's astoundingly good whining voice.
The concert seemed to end on an anti-climax though, with no final message to the crowd and no encore. After only playing about 50 minutes, Mansun disappeared and left the crowd gasping for more.
