Mansun Live - September 26th 1996

Bath Moles Club, supported by Groupie

Well I was lucky to get tickets, as two people cancelled and so a friend and I could go to the gig. The venue opened at 9 p.m., or so they said, and so by about 9:15 we were a bit fed up of waiting, having been there since about 8:30. The doors opened, and in piled hundreds and hundreds of people into a completely sold out gig.
For the first half an hour it was a case of getting the beers in, then having emptied the bladder, so as not to have to leave a good place near the stage, we made our way to the front. Basically we stayed at the front for the entire concert.
First we had the support band at about 10 p.m. `Groupie'. They were actually quite good, but then after the stage had been set up, and rolls and rolls of tape applied, on came MANSUN!!
I was standing right at the front and so I had a very good view. Chad was standing right in front of me, and I could have hit him if I wanted to... which I didn't, in fact he nearly hit me in the face with his guitar several times, whether this was intentional I don't know. The playlist, I hear you scream "what did they play?!"... well I got the playlist at the end of the gig:

TAXLOSS
STRIPPER VICAR
THE EDGE
DRASTIC SURGEON
EGG-SHAPED FRED
WIDE OPEN SPACE
SKI JUMP NOSE (lyrical)
MANSUNS ONLY LOVESONG
SHE MAKES MY NOSE BLEED
TAKE IT EASY CHICKEN

It was outstanding! Chad was wearing the pink-type shirt that is on the album inlay cover, the one with the safety pins all over it. Paul was wearing a nice litlle black silky number, only joking he was wearing black shirt, black trousers, and a green army-type coat, which came off to reveal a `lovely up yours' logo on it! Stove was wearing a black, armless MANSUN T-shirt....which came off, and last but not least Andy Rathbone was wearing a red vest type thing... well it gets very hot when you're drumming! I managed to get their playlist, and Chad's plectrum... which is nice (it's a Gibson).
Unfortunately they were not on for long, and there was no encore, but it was a very good gig, and my ears are still ringing, and it is 1 o'clock in the afternoon the following day. There were a hell of a lot of people there, and my ribs still feel somewhat crushed, but hey, I'd gladly donate a rib or two for a concert like that!
