February 1999 - Dark Mavis, Mansun's informant, announces lead singer
Paul Draper's wishes to send out the large collection of demo tapes
he's accumulated to any fans who'd like them. All they need do is send
in a self-addressed jiffy bag. Unsurprisingly, the demand exceeds the supply at least tenfold - around 60 cassettes and DATs are sent out to fans - two thirds kept in the UK, the rest going abroad. March 1999 - Dark Dave, a fan of Mansun decides that as many of the tapes as possible should be tracked down and have their content extracted for a greater good - THE DEMO TAPES. April 1999 - Those fans prepared to let Dave borrow their prized possessions do so, and so the compilation begins.
May 1999 - The final tapes arrive and Dave sets to work on digitally remastering
each track, enhancing each track individually as is necessary in order to restore the
music to how it was originally recorded. The final result is 25 seperate pieces,
each in some way different to the final, released version of the song in question. Dave
compiles the tracks onto 2 CDs, and finds around 30 minutes of available space on the
second disc. He retrieves 8 tracks from various recent Mansun EPs, tracks that were
never released on CD to the public, and again applies the digital processing in order
to achieve the highest possible quality... |
